Adverse Weather Notice

Typhoons / "Extreme Condition"

There are two sessions for full-time courses in a day, i.e. one session in morning and one session in afternoon. For half-day and evening classes, there is only one session in a day . When typhoons affect Hong Kong, the following arrangements will apply:

Typhoon signal Action to be taken
No. 1 Classes/examinations conducted as scheduled. No make-up classes will be arranged.
No. 3 Classes/examinations conducted as scheduled. No make-up classes will be arranged.
Pre-No.8 special Announcement # / Typhoon Signal No.8 or above /" Extreme Condition" Announcement ## (a) Issued or in force at 6:15 a.m. or before 11:00 a.m.
Morning Session (classes and examinations) cancelled.
(b) Issued or in force at 11:00 a.m. or before 4:00 p.m.
Afternoon Session (classes and examinations) cancelled.
(c) Issued or in force at 4:00 p.m. or thereafter
Evening Session (classes and examinations) cancelled.
(d) Issued when classes or examinations are in session
All classes or examinations will be immediately suspended for the session.

# Where possible, the Hong Kong Observatory will issue an early alert (i.e. a "Pre-No. 8 Special Announcment") two hours prior to the hoisting of the No. 8 Typhoon Warning Signal. All classes, examinations or other activities in the session should be immediately suspended once the Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement issued.
## If situation warrants, the Government may issue an " Extreme Condition" announcement before Typhoon Signal No. 8 is replaced with No. 3. The " Extreme Condition" , if issued, normally covers the two-hour period after cancellation of No. 8, and may be extended or cancelled by the end of the two-hour period.
 

Rainstorms

When a rainstorm signal is issued, the following arrangements will apply:

Rainstorm warning signal Action to be taken
AMBER Classes/examinations conducted as scheduled. No make-up classes will be arranged.
RED Classes/examinations conducted as scheduled. No make-up classes will be arranged.
BLACK (a) Issued or in force at 6:15 a.m. or before 11:00 a.m.
Morning Session (classes and examinations) cancelled.
(b) Issued or in force at 11:00 a.m. or before 4:00 p.m.
Afternoon Session (classes and examinations) cancelled.
(c) Issued or in force at 4:00 p.m. or thereafter
Evening Session (classes and examinations) cancelled.
(d) Issued when classes or examinations are in session
All classes / examinations should continue except those taking place outdoors. No make-up classes will be arranged and the examinations will not be postponed.

If it is the end of the school day where RED / BLACK signal is still in force, trainees should be advised to return home only when conditions are safe.

Remarks:
If trainees are not yet in the campus premises due to differences in class timetables, they should stay home or take shelter in a safe place. For classes/examinations conducted outdoors, the responsible staff on the spot should suspend the activities immediately and ensure that all trainees have taken shelter in a safe place.

Resumption of Classes

Before 11:00 a.m.
Lowering to No.3 or below or lowering all signals and " Extreme Condition" at any time

Lowering to AMBER or RED or all signals at any time 
All classes or examinations to resume with the next session
Before 4:00 p.m.
Lowering to No.3 or below or lowering all signals and " Extreme Condition" at any time

Lowering to AMBER or RED or all signals at any time 
All classes or examinations to resume with the evening session

When classes/examinations are resumed following the lowering of typhoon signals or rainstorm warnings or " Extreme Condition", trainees should decide whether or not they will return to the campus after taking into consideration the local weather, road, slope, traffic or transport conditions at that time. If trainees decide to quit the lesson, no make-up class will be arranged. If trainee is absent from the continuous assessment or final examination, make-up exam will be arranged for qualified trainees according to ERB's latest guidelines.

In the event that class or examination is cancelled as a result of adverse weather or any circumstances not controlled by IVDC, make-up class  will be arranged and examination in that particular session will be postponed. IVDC will announce the arrangement as soon as practicable after class resumption and trainees cannot dispute about it. 

Trainees are requested to follow the above arrangments set out in times of typhoons and rainstorms. No public announcement will be made on TV/Radio by VTC. Please note that announcements made by the Education Bureau may not apply to IVDC.

*Trainees of valued-added courses and professional courses will be separately informed of the make-up class or examination arrangement under adverse weather.
